Internal Complaints Committee for Employees

In consonance with the University’s policy prohibiting discrimination and sexual harassment, the University and the UGC’s Notification, University Grants Commission (Prevention,prohibition,and redressal of sexual harassment of women employees in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2015, the ICFAI University Meghalaya decides to set up the Internal Complaints Committee to prevent any form of harassment of its employees. Harassment is a violation of the basic fundamental rights of all to live in dignity.

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) shall comprise of the following members to be nominated by the Management.

  1. A Presiding Officer who shall be woman faculty member at a senior level of Professor /Associate Professor. In case a senior level woman faculty member is not available, the Presiding Officer shall be nominated from other officers or administrative units.
  2. Two faculty members and two non-teaching employees, preferably who have had experience in social work or legal knowledge of the same.
  3. One member from amongst non-government organizations or associations committed to the cause of women or a person familiar with the issues relating to sexual harassment.

The ICC shall have a term of three years. At the end of the three years period, members may be renewed or new members will be elected or nominated by the Management.

At least one-half of the total members of the ICC shall be women.

The Internal Complaints Committee is empowered to prevent harassment of any form towards the employees of the University.

It has to ensure that the workplace is a safe and respectful environment for all employees. And it also has to ensure that the workplace is free from any form of harassment and gender discrimination.

The Internal Complaints Committee is the body that receives complaints and set up investigation against any form of harassment.

Upon receipt of a complaint, the Internal Complaints Committee initiates a prompt and impartial inquiry to determine the veracity of the allegations.

Whether the complaint/s is malicious or not will be determined by the Committee after the conduct of an inquiry.

The Internal Complaints Committee shall act as the grievance redressal forum.

To ensure that the provisions for the protection of employees and students from sexual harassment do not get misused, if the ICC concludes that the allegations made were false, malicious or the complaint was made knowing it to be untrue, or forged or misleading information has been provided during the inquiry the complainant shall be liable to be punished.

After due inquiry, the Internal Complaints Committee shall recommend redressal taking into account the severity of the case.

It is to be noted that the ICFAI University Meghalaya stands to comply with the UGC’s Notification, viz., “University Grants Commission (Prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students in higher educational institutions) Regulations, 2015”.
