The Bachelor in Arts in Political Science attempts to study and understand world events, their background, and the how’s and why’s of decisions being made that aff ect the people in totality. The program is designed to explain and understand the political system and politics from local to global levels. Importantly, graduates of Political Science honours are prepared for careers in government sectors, in international organizations such as the UNO, business, law, journalism, psychology to name a few.

Bachelor in Political Science is a four years full time degree program designed to provide students with an understanding of politics, processes and theories. The program provides in-depth exploration of local, national and international policies. Through study, students delve into the disciplines of sociology, comparative politics, international relations, public policy and economics. They acquire critical thinking, research and intellectual skills that enable them to evaluate political problems, formulate arguments and propose solutions. The BA in Political Science provides students with the knowledge and tools needed to participate in higher education in political discourse, government, law, public administration, international organizations, advocacy groups, or politics or other subjects.
a. The program is designed to provide students with an understanding of various political concepts, including democracy, governance, and other forms of governance. This includes examining the structure, functions and institutions of local, national and international governments.
b. Introduces students to different politics and ideologies. The aim is to develop critical thinking and the ability to analyse political ideas, opinions and debates.
c. Introduces the development of research and analytical skills.
d. Students learn to collect, evaluate and interpret data, conduct political research, and apply a variety of research methods and techniques. This includes analysing issues of public policy, political behaviour and international relations.
e. Learn about policy development and how governments create and implement policies. This includes examining the role of interest groups, politicians and the public in policy decisions.
f. Political science encourages reflection and problem solving. Students learn to analyse political problems, evaluate different perspectives, and propose solutions to political problems.
Passing this program will make them qualified to apply for occupations such as Political Analyst, Policy Analyst, Legislative Assistant, Public Relations Specialist, Non-profit Organization Administrator, Researcher/Research Analyst, Journalist/Reporter, Policy Advisor, Political Writer/Commentator and lastly a Teacher.
Observe and analyze political contexts from critical and its different perspective.
Have a higher knowledge of the working of various political institutions inclusive of decentralized establishments, the parliament and relate this functioning to the greater reason of countries contribution towards a responsible citizen.
Verify how international countries and its development affect polity and society.
To benefit vital thinking and expand the capacity to make logical inferences about Socio-economic and political issues, on the basis of comparative and contemporary political discourses in India.
Ponder about national and global issues in relation to States having one of a kind political ideology and its historical contexts.
Pursue higher education such as Post Graduate Studies and Research in Political Science and in other interdisciplinary areas to provide qualitative insights to create a better world.
Students will be able to analyse political situations, policies and procedures using theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence. They will have the skills to analyse complex political issues, lay out the foundations and evaluate the impact of different political actions and decisions.
Students will have good written and verbal communication skills, making it easy for them to communicate about politics and good debate. They will be able to create clear and persuasive presentations, briefings and talks and present their ideas to a variety of people.
Students will develop a better understanding of electoral processes and decision-making processes, as well as political institutions such as legislatures, commissions and courts. Will be able to identify changes in these trends and explain their impact on government and public policy.
After completion of the course the student is expected to showcase a reasonably special knowledge of the basic ideas, principles, establishments, strategies of politics and authorities at national as well as international levels. Admission Modalities
The Admission Modalities are with reference to the campus-based programs offered by the ICFAI University, Meghalaya at Tura & Shillong campuses. The medium of instruction is English.
Eligibility
Pass in Class XII (any discipline). Students awaiting final examinations results are also eligible to apply.
Students of Class XII who have not received the original certificates from the Board by July 18, 2024 will be admitted provisionally. Their admission will be confirmed subject to their passing the qualifying examination. The registration of the candidates not meeting the criteria by September 16, 2024 will be cancelled and admission fee will be forfeited and only 50% of the semester fee will be refunded after notifying the cancellation of the seat by the University.
Admission Criteria
- The selection of applicants into the Program is made through screening of application and interview.
- While evaluating students for admission, due weightage is given to their academic distinction, awards in sports/cultural events, debates, quizzes and other extra co-curricular activities.
- Original certificates and Domicile certificate should be produced for verification at the time of payment of first semester fee. The original certificates will be returned after verification.
Special Reservation
- There shall be a special provision for admission of students belonging to the State of Meghalaya in any course of ICFAI University, Meghalaya, which shall not be less than 25 (twenty-five) percent of seats in each course / discipline subject to the students meeting the minimum qualifying requirements referred to above.
- Seats remaining unfilled under special reservation may be filled up by allotting the same to students belonging to Open Category.

Applicants can apply online by filling up the Application Form available at www.iumeghalaya.edu.in and make payment of Rs. 300 towards online Registration charges by using Credit / Debit Card (Visa / Master Card / Citibank Card) or Internet banking option using secure internet payment gateway. Applicants applying online should attach their scanned colour photograph along with the Online Application. The Prospectus will be sent to such applicants.

Applicants can fill in the application form and send it to the Admissions Office.
The applicants are advised to read the guidelines carefully before completing the Application Form for Admission.

Fee Schedule
Fee comprises of Admission Fee and Program Fee.
Admission Fee (Non-Refundable)
Admission Fee of Rs. 6,000 is to be paid by all the selected candidates immediately after the admission decision is announced. *Foreign students have to pay an admission fee of Rs. 7,000. The last date for payment of admission fee is July 10, 2024.
Caution Deposit (Refundable)
Students have to pay Rs 3,000 as Caution Deposit along with the first installment of Program Fee. The Caution Deposit will be refunded without interest after adjusting for dues, if any, to the students on completion of the Program.
Program Fee
Students have to pay the program fee at the beginning of each semester, as per the due dates which will be indicated in the Student Handbook. The first semester fee is to be paid on or before July 21, 2024.
