The Bachelor in Arts in English program is designed to prepare the students to understand and appreciate the English language and literature thoroughly and at the same time effectively use the language to enhance their Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing skills. The program seeks to offer the students a plethora of diverse topics covering almost each and every aspect of English language and literature. This will give a unique opportunity to the students to have a theoretical, philosophical and analytical view of English language and literature.

The B.A. English programme offers an enriching and comprehensive study of the English language, literature, linguistics and culture. The programme is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the written and spoken word, as well as critical thinking and analytical skills. Throughout the course, students will explore various literary genres, periods, and movements, gaining insights into the evolution of English literature and its impact on society. Additionally, the programme provides a broad learning platform for students in the fields of English Language Education and Linguistics with emphasis on teaching pedagogy, effective communication, writing proficiency, and a global perspective, thus, preparing students for diverse career paths in fields such as education, media, publishing, and more. By immersing themselves in the world of literature and language, B. A. English students will develop a broader appreciation of the human experience and the power of storytelling. Therefore, this course is designed to enhance students’ contact with all three aspects of English as subject, namely, Literature, Language, and Linguistics.

Students can teach English language and literature, writing, or related subjects. Additionally, some may choose to become language instructors in language schools or teach English as a second language (ESL) in international contexts.
Students can work in publishing houses, literary agencies, or as freelance editors. They may be involved in manuscript editing, proofreading, copyediting, or content development. Some may also work as editorial assistants, helping to manage publication processes.
Students can work in media-related fields such as journalism, content writing, and copywriting. They can work for newspapers, magazines, online media platforms, or corporate communications departments.
Students can pursue careers in digital marketing, social media management, and content creation for websites, blogs, and online platforms.
Students may find roles in corporate settings, handling internal and external communications, creating reports, writing press releases, and managing corporate publications.

Admission Modalities
The Admission Modalities are with reference to the campus-based programs offered by the ICFAI University, Meghalaya at Tura & Shillong campuses. The medium of instruction is English.
Eligibility
Pass in Class XII (any discipline). Students awaiting final examinations results are also eligible to apply.
Students of Class XII who have not received the original certificates from the Board by July 18, 2024 will be admitted provisionally. Their admission will be confirmed subject to their passing the qualifying examination. The registration of the candidates not meeting the criteria by September 16, 2024 will be cancelled and admission fee will be forfeited and only 50% of the semester fee will be refunded after notifying the cancellation of the seat by the University.
Admission Criteria
- The selection of applicants into the Program is made through screening of application and interview.
- While evaluating students for admission, due weightage is given to their academic distinction, awards in sports/cultural events, debates, quizzes and other extra co-curricular activities.
- Original certificates and Domicile certificate should be produced for verification at the time of payment of first semester fee. The original certificates will be returned after verification.
Special Reservation
- There shall be a special provision for admission of students belonging to the State of Meghalaya in any course of ICFAI University, Meghalaya, which shall not be less than 25 (twenty-five) percent of seats in each course / discipline subject to the students meeting the minimum qualifying requirements referred to above.
- Seats remaining unfilled under special reservation may be filled up by allotting the same to students belonging to Open Category.

Applicants can apply online by filling up the Application Form available at www.iumeghalaya.edu.in and make payment of Rs. 300 towards online Registration charges by using Credit / Debit Card (Visa / Master Card / Citibank Card) or Internet banking option using secure internet payment gateway. Applicants applying online should attach their scanned colour photograph along with the Online Application. The Prospectus will be sent to such applicants.

Applicants can fill in the application form and send it to the Admissions Office.
The applicants are advised to read the guidelines carefully before completing the Application Form for Admission.

Fee Schedule
Fee comprises of Admission Fee and Program Fee.
Admission Fee (Non-Refundable)
Admission Fee of Rs. 6,000 is to be paid by all the selected candidates immediately after the admission decision is announced. *Foreign students have to pay an admission fee of Rs. 7,000. The last date for payment of admission fee is July 10, 2024.
Caution Deposit (Refundable)
Students have to pay Rs 3,000 as Caution Deposit along with the first installment of Program Fee. The Caution Deposit will be refunded without interest after adjusting for dues, if any, to the students on completion of the Program.
Program Fee
Students have to pay the program fee at the beginning of each semester, as per the due dates which will be indicated in the Student Handbook. The first semester fee is to be paid on or before July 21, 2024.
